How to get the most out of your video content
For anyone new to using video for their business it can feel overwhelming, which is where our video brief tips will hopefully come in handy! You need to know where to start to make sure you are getting the most out of your video supplier, content and budget.
Giving a video brief that is both helpful for you (in understanding your reasons for needing video) as well as your chosen video supplier…and it can save a lot of time and money by getting it right!
We have put together a few video brief tips which will hopefully help you get the most out of your video experience
We want to get as much information as possible about your business and requirements.
This might include details such as:
1. What you are trying to communicate
There needs to be a purpose for having a video/ series of videos produced and by understanding what you are trying to achieve we can help you decide on the right type of video.
2. What your brand is about
You know all about your brand and business…it’s key that we do too so we can deliver video content that is valuable.
3. End goal for the video content
Are you wanting to get more traffic to your website, sell more products or establish a following for your brand. Video is a great tool for reaching existing and potential customers. You can even use your existing customers to help you gain new ones. We can achieve this by developing engaging content that is sharable! Take a look at this video we produced for Four Folk Gin Co. They uploaded the video to their social media channels and it was shared…and shared…and shared!!!
4. Your core message
What do you want your viewer to walk away with once they’ve watched your video? Remember to try and keep it engaging and concise.
5. Your audience
Understanding your audience is crucial. Identifying your audience will influence decisions from the start of the video process. Also, don’t be afraid to have different types of videos for different audiences.
6. Define content
Your content can vary vastly due to the type of video being produced. It all depends on what information you want to get across. See the different types of videos we produce
7. Style and tone
By knowing your core objectives as well as identifying your audience you will have a clear idea on what tone is appropriate.
8. Video length
The style of video will help inform your overall length. A general company overview introducing someone to your organisation might be quite short and concise (around 1-2 minutes). Whereas a company training videos (3 plus minutes) may be lengthier depending on all the information that needs to be delivered. Different platforms can also help in deciding how long your video should be, it’s important we do a little research in the pre-production stage.
9. What platforms should your videos be on
Not all platforms are suitable for every video. If you have a ‘how to’ type video, this probably isn’t going to go on Linkedin (which is more suited for business to business videos). However, they maybe right for your website, YouTube and facebook.
10. Budget and deadline….don’t be afraid to reveal your budget!!
It’s easier for you to understand what can be achieved on your budget if you are open with us, and saves a lot of time going down a path that may be unrealistic. It also allows us to explore avenues that we may not have. Some videos take longer to produce than others so being clear on your deadline from the outset can help in allowing your video supplier to determine what type of video can be achieved in your timeframe. A production schedule will be delivered to you for you to approve. By doing this you will know what to expect at certain points along the duration of your project.
11. Expectations
And finally…(although you’ll probably find other things come up once you start your journey!) create a list of expectations. That way you and your video supplier are on the same page from the start.
